In May, veteran nurse practitioner, Ann Riley Finck, was presented with Columbia University’s Clinical Nursing Excellence Award. That same night, she appeared on the Yankee Stadium Jumbotron!

Ann Riley Finck, NP, MSN, RN, CCRN, CNRN has run the Pre-Operative Informational Program here at Neurosurgeons of New Jersey in Ridgewood for the last year. She has also been a critical care nurse at New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Neuro Intensive care unit for the last 45 years! In celebration of 2012‘s Nurses and Nursing Support Staff Week, her colleagues nominated Ms. Finck for the award.

“I’ve known Ann for over 12 years,” says Dr. Anthony D’Ambrosio, Neurosurgeon at the Ridgewood office. “In addition to being an outstanding Neuro intensive care nurse, she’s a wonderful person, colleague, mother and friend. She is a dedicated teacher and has the power of bringing a smile to everyone’s face no matter the situation. Ann is truly the best. Once again, Columbia got it right.”

“I was thrilled. I felt very honored,” says Ms. Finck. The ceremony was held on May 8, 2012 at New York-Presbyterian’s Riverview Terrace. During the event a short video of the night’s winners was presented.

The New York Yankees, as it happens, also had a hold of that same video. “We are the official hospital of the Yankees, and they paid tribute to the nurses up on the Jumbotron,” says Ms. Finck. “I went out to dinner with my husband and children to celebrate after the ceremony and my daughter got a text of my face up on the Jumbotron. It was an amusing thrill.”

Congratulations, Ann!
