About Dr. Geoff Appelboom
Dr. Geoffrey Appelboom is a fellowship trained spine surgeon and Director of Neurosurgery at Saint Joseph University Hospitals. A Stanford-trained expert in complex spinal disorders and robotic spine surgery, he specializes in minimally invasive techniques, revision procedures, and second opinions for failed spine surgeries. His expertise includes cervical and lumbar spine conditions, advanced spinal fusion techniques, and other advanced treatments designed to reduce pain and restore optimal spinal function.
Meet Dr. Appelboom
Dr. Geoffrey Appelboom is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon and Director of Neurosurgery at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, the largest hospital system in New Jersey, serving Wayne, Totowa, Paterson and Bloomfield. He also performs complex spinal cases at New York University (NYU) hospital in Manhattan, where he is actively involved in teaching spine surgery techniques to neurosurgery residents.
A graduate of Stanford University’s prestigious spine surgery fellowship, Dr. Appelboom is recognized nationally for his expertise in complex spinal disorders, minimally invasive techniques, and robotic-assisted procedures.
With a focus on restoring function and reducing pain, he provides both surgical and non-surgical spine treatment options, tailoring care to the needs of each patient. He is especially sought out for second opinions and revision surgeries in cases of failed spine procedures.
Dr. Appelboom specializes in the treatment of:

Training & Education
Dr. Appelboom trained at Stanford University in Palo Alto California and specializes in modern brain and spine surgery methods using state-of-the-art technology. After completing his brain and spine surgery training, Dr Appelboom began his neurosurgical practice as clinical instructor of complex spine surgery at Stanford University Hospital before being recruited back to New York.
Dr Appelboom has spent the past couple of years providing New Jersey (Passaic County) with high level, conservative spine surgery, including cervical and lumbar discectomy, laminectomy and fusions.
He has published over 90 research papers, authored four book chapters, and has served on editorial boards for five medical journals. He is an active member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the North American Spine Society (NASS), and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS).
Dr. Appelboom is also fluent in French, Dutch and Spanish. He is in-network with most commercial insurances and is currently accepting new patients.
