Payment Posting Specialist

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Posts payments received through the lockbox or mailroom and adjustments as identified by insurance explanation of benefits
  • Balances posted payments at the end of the day
  • Works to identify and resolve payment posting issues
  • Works credit report as time permits
  • Works the unapplied cash report as time permits
  • Consistently meets agreed upon department metric
  • Maintains a 98% accuracy posting rate
  • Researches and transfers payments in un-identified within 14 days
  • Maintains knowledge and proper utilization of transaction codes
  • Ensures confidentiality of all patient accounts by following HIPAA guidelines
  • Adheres to compliance of CMS and other payer guidelines
  • Instills current department policies and procedures
  • Meets or exceeds quality and quantity benchmark targets as established by management
  • Communicates daily with management on payer trends identified
  • Attends in-services, education sessions and department meetings as scheduled
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all NSA systems (e.g. MedEvolve, Navinet)
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

College degree preferred, though education and experience will be considered. Working knowledge of Revenue Cycle, basic accounting knowledge and two years of related experience preferred. Knowledge of third party payers, including Medicare, insurance plans, billing terms, CPT and ICD 9 codes strongly preferred.

Other Qualifications:

Advanced computer and office equipment knowledge, including Windows-based programs. Detail-oriented, strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast paced environment. Consistently professional yet tenacious throughout dealings with third party payors. Ability to work individually, and as a member of a team.
