Dr. Kaiser featured panelist at Comic Con San Diego
Even superheroes get hurt. Many times, this trauma is inflicted upon the brain or spine. Comic book heroes and villains have a unique ability to withstand extreme trauma to their central nervous system- they are super, after all. Whether it be Batman having his back broken by Bane or Cyclops surviving a head-first fall from a crashing plane, they had the unique ability to endure and withstand extreme trauma to their central nervous system, rehabilitate, and live to fight another day. Even heroes like Batgirl or Professor X were able to live through extreme neurological injuries that left them disabled, but still able to be heroes.
Tomorrow at noon, one of our very own Neurosurgeons, Dr. Michael Kaiser MD, FACS, FAANS will be participating in a panel at San Diego Comic Con called Neurological/Neurosurgical Controversies of the Comic Book Universe. During this panel, he will bring his rich level of neurosurgical expertise to the world of comics and participate in a discussion concerning the injuries that comic book superheroes and supervillains have sustained to their central nervous system, and correlate these injuries to the expected consequences in humans. How would a regular person be able to rehabilitate from a broken back like Bruce Wayne? The results may surprise you.
