Where Conservative Spine Care Meets Innovation
For years, patients suffering from chronic back pain had two main options: try conservative therapies like physical therapy and injections, or commit to open spine surgery. But what about the many people who fall in between?
At The Spine Center, we specialize in bridging that gap.
Our team offers a suite of state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedures designed to treat pain more effectively than conservative care alone, without the long recovery time, risks, or disruption of traditional surgery. These breakthrough options can often delay or even eliminate the need for more aggressive surgical intervention.
Here’s what sets us apart and how we’re redefining what spine care can look like.
A New Era of Minimally Invasive Spine Care
Each of the following procedures is performed through small incisions, often with imaging guidance. They’re designed to reduce pain, restore function, and get patients back to doing what they love, with minimal downtime
1. Percutaneous Image-Guided Lumbar Decompression (MILD®)
Ideal for patients with lumbar spinal stenosis, the MILD procedure removes small portions of thickened ligament through a tiny incision, relieving pressure on spinal nerves. No stitches, no implants, and no general anesthesia are required.
2. Basivertebral Nerve Ablation (Intracept®)
For patients with vertebrogenic back pain, caused by degenerating Lumbar (low back) discs, which then cause the nearby bones to become inflamed. The inflamed bones are what are causing the pain. Not the spinal nerves, and not the discs. This is why other treatment often fails for these patients. Correctly identifying inflamed bones on an MRI is the key to this diagnosis and treatment. Intracept targets and interrupts the basivertebral nerve. By interrupting the pain signals at their source, this procedure provides lasting relief for patients who haven’t responded to other types of treatments.
3. Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Fusion and Fixation (TransLoc®)
The SI joint can become the source of chronic low back or buttock pain, especially when it begins to move too much. This joint is typically very stiff under normal conditions. Even small movements in the joint have the potential to cause low back pain., TransLoc offers a minimally invasive way to stabilize and fuse the joint using small implants. This procedure helps restore stability and reduce pain.
4. Interspinous Posterior Devices (Minuteman, KeyLift®)
Spinal stenosis causes a decrease in the space available for the spinal cord and/or the spinal nerves to travel. This is called stenosis. One of the ways this can be corrected is to implant a small spacer to restore some of the space that was lost. These implants are designed for patients with spinal stenosis who experience pain when standing or walking. Spacing out the vertebrae and relieving pressure on the nerves can decrease pain and allow for a more upright posture and increased mobility.
Neuromodulation: Redefining Pain Management
Some of the most exciting advancements in spine care come from the field of neuromodulation, where electrical stimulation is used to regulate overactive nerves and interrupt pain signals before they reach the brain.
Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS)
Small electrodes are carefully implanted under direct fluoroscopic visualization near the spinal cord and controlled by the patient with an external device. Patients can adjust their settings to manage pain. This can be especially helpful for those with failed back surgery syndrome, neuropathy, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), and other nerve-related pain.
Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS)
Similar to SCS, but designed for specific peripheral nerves to treat smaller areas of pain (like those in the shoulder, back, or hip). PNS is an effective, minimally invasive option for targeting localized pain.
Why This “Bridge” Matters
Too often, patients are told to wait until their condition “gets bad enough” for surgery. With this growing toolkit of minimally invasive procedures, that wait-and-see approach is no longer the only path.
By offering advanced interventional options, we empower our patients with more choices, better outcomes, and care plans tailored to their individual needs, not just a one-size-fits-all approach.
Whether you’re just beginning your journey with back or neck pain or you’ve tried conservative treatments without success, our team is here to explore the right next step with you.
Is Minimally Invasive Spine Care Right for You?
If you’re stuck between injections and surgery, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to choose between suffering and surgery.
Let’s talk about your options. Our team of interventional pain specialists, chiropractors, physical therapists, and neurosurgical partners works together to ensure you get the right care at the right time.
