About Dr. William S. Cobb

Dr. William “Bill” Cobb grew up in the local area and is a board-certified neurosurgeon and Director of Neurosurgical Oncology at The Valley Hospital, specializing in brain tumors, spinal disorders, and minimally invasive techniques. He treats complex neurological conditions using advanced technology, including frameless guidance systems and stereotactic radiosurgery as well as focusing on minimally invasive techniques. A member of AANS, CNS, and the joint Tumor section, Dr. Cobb has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications.

Meet Dr. Cobb

Dr. William S. Cobb is a board-certified neurosurgeon and one of the top spine surgeons based in New Jersey who specializes in brain tumors, spinal disorders, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He serves as the Director of Neurosurgical Oncology at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood and practices out of the Ridgewood office, where he coordinates multidisciplinary care for neuro-oncology patients. He offers both non-surgical and surgical treatment options designed to reduce pain, restore function, and improve quality of life.

Dr. Cobb treats a wide range of neurological conditions, with a particular focus on spine conditions, including:

  • Degenerative spine conditions, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and scoliosis
  • Cervical spine disorders with ACDF surgery and cervical laminoplasty procedures
  • Complex neurological conditions requiring minimally invasive spine surgery
  • Spinal cord tumors and complex spinal disorders that require specialized approaches
  • Brain tumors with advanced craniotomy techniques and Gamma Knife radiosurgery

Dr. Cobb utilizes the latest advances in neurosurgical technology to deliver the highest quality care to his patients. He employs state-of-the-art equipment, including computer-guided surgical systems, specialized imaging during surgery, and minimally invasive techniques. These modern approaches enable Dr. Cobb to deliver precise treatments that cause less disruption to healthy tissue, reduce post-surgical pain, and facilitate faster patient recovery, all while ensuring comprehensive and coordinated care.

Training & Education

Dr. Cobb graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania before receiving a Doctoral degree in neuroscience from Rutgers University studying the neurochemistry and neurophysiology of the brain. Upon completing his doctoral degree, Dr. Cobb then graduated from the New Jersey Medical School where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and received the NJMS highest student honor, the Stanley S. Bergen, Jr., M.D. Medal of Excellence award.

He subsequently completed his Surgery internship and Neurological Surgery residency at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. In addition, Dr. Cobb spent two years in the research lab during his residency doing a neuro-oncological research fellowship at Weill Cornell and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center studying the development of brain tumors.

Dr. Cobb continues to have a strong interest in diseases of the brain and spine with a particular focus in neurological oncology. In particular, he is interested in the use of stereotactic radiosurgery in conjunction with surgical intervention in the treatment of tumors of the brain and spine.
